Please check-in at the Information Desk, located on the ground floor of the State Capitol. Large groups are encouraged to call ahead and schedule a tour or complete the tour request form below. Free visitor parking is available on the south side of the Capitol in the east parking lot (north of the State Library and adjacent to the south entrance).

Capitol Building. On August 28, 1883, two tracts of 160 acres were deeded to the Territory of North Dakota from the Northern Pacific Railroad Company for the land on which the ND State Capitol was erected, which includes two parks.

Looking out the windows from the 18th floor of the Capitol on a clear day, we can see up to 35 miles in every direction. This floor also includes a changing gallery featuring local artists, as well as historical photos.

The current Capitol building was built in the 1930's and the design throughout is largely an art deco. There are 18 floors in the Capitol tower and 3 in the Judicial Wing addition. The elevators in the building had elevator attendants in them until the elevators were modernized in 1991.

The Capitol Café will be open from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Breakfast will be served hot bar style, priced by weight open 7 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. The grill will be open for lunch from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
